2018 FIRST Robotics – FIRST POWER UP – Build Season Week 4
As we head towards the end of the fourth week of build season, there are a few things I want to highlight. The CyberKnights started a new series on their blog called, “Rookie Inspiration.” The goal is to showcase the learning experiences of newly joined CyberKnights members. The second highlight is that our Robot has come together, and the drive team is all ready practicing elements of the game.
The new blog series will highlight new members of the CyberKnights team and provide insights and experience from different team members as they grow and learn during this 2018 build season. The current profile is on one of our new freshman members of the team. This team member has been involved in Robotics since sixth grade and brings a lot of talent to the team. A quote from the profile provides us with some insight into their experience, “First, I enjoy working with other people and using my teamwork skills. Working with other people is a great learning experience to be able to share your ideas properly and to be able to accept other people’s ideas. Second, I enjoy being able to apply the knowledge that I gain from school. For example, there are many math concepts that you can apply when you are working in robotics.” To read the whole team member highlight, please visit the CyberKnights blog post.
Our drive team has been able to spend a lot of time with the robot so far this build season. They started with practicing with the cube collector, have had some time getting used to the speed of the robot and have began working with loading the field switch. The arm has not been fully programmed so all the capabilities are not there yet but are very close. We have yet to install the climber, so this is the next and final phase. One benefit of giving the drive team advanced practice time is, we learned very quickly that the robot does not climb the platform the way we had hoped. In the past, we would have found this out in the first match of competition. We now have time to adjust the chassis and will be able to come to the competition fully prepared to climb the platforms. 4-9-1-1, Go CyberKnights!
